Dear colleagues,
After just over seven months, I may still be the new guy around Humber, but I’m feeling very much part of this great community. Everyone is so welcoming and supportive, and what unites us is our passion for student success. The hard efforts, commitment and enthusiasm of faculty and staff create an excellent teaching and learning environment and set us apart.
It isn’t easy being a student, and like all of us, they need to balance families and jobs. For many of our students, financial support is the only way for them to achieve their dreams and pursue a postsecondary education. This past fall, I attended many of the awards ceremonies, and heard first-hand from the students what a difference receiving support can make. Here’s just one testimonial:
“I am determined to pay for all of my education with no help from my mother, a woman whom I adore greatly and owe much of my success to. We come from very little means so this generous award was both a surprise and a relief and I am very honoured to receive it.”
I am enjoying my time at Humber, and to further my commitment I have now joined the Humber family of donors. Our college motto is “Carpe Opportunitates / Seize the opportunities”, and I can think of no better way to do that than by investing in the future of our students. I encourage you to join me, by showing your support; you get another opportunity to help our students to be successful.
Our best work is accomplished when we work together, and last year thanks to the generosity of you and your colleagues, over $127,000 was donated towards student support. The giving options have changed this year. You can now choose both the school and how you want your gift used, for student support or for other special initiatives. The easiest and most convenient way to contribute is by making an ongoing payroll deduction. Click here to make a gift today.
Thank you for all that you do for Humber and for helping students realize their potential and reach their goals. Your commitment and dedication create the learning experiences that make Humber the top-rated college in the country.
Sincerely,
Chris Whitaker
President and CEOP.S. I encourage you to seize this opportunity and donate today. All employee gifts received by March 31, 2013 will be entered in a draw to win a lunch with me. (And yes, it’s on me!)
