Humber Upholds Values of Inclusion and Diversity

As I’ve said on many occasions, Humber College is proud of the diversity of our institution, led by our students and employees. Our community reflects Canada and the world and we are impacted by events that take place around the globe.

It has been a difficult weekend for many people, and I would like to begin this week by affirming our commitment as a college to valuing diversity, inclusion and respect.

The Humber community is deeply saddened by the shooting at a Quebec City mosque yesterday, and we stand with all students, including those in our Muslim Students’ Association, in mourning the loss of innocent lives. Our thoughts are with those affected by this tragedy.

Further, in light of the United States’ recent travel ban, we are supporting our students who may be negatively impacted by the restrictions. Any international student that has questions about travel to the U.S. should contact the International Centre for more information.

International students from more than 100 countries around the world call Humber their home away from home. Many more students and employees have connections to friends and family all over the globe. This breadth of experiences makes us stronger as an institution and, in a larger context, as a country.

We support Prime Minister Trudeau’s recent statement that Canada welcomes those “fleeing persecution, terror and war” regardless of faith.

Humber will continue to hold a culture of inclusion and respect as our highest priority. We will celebrate the strength and richness we gain from the differences among us, ensuring that all members of our community feel welcome, safe and valued.
