Humber Polytechnic students participated for the first time ever at the RoboBoat 2025 competition and returned home with an award.

Humber was one of 27 teams at the international competition that had students designing autonomous, robotic boats to navigate through a course. These boats are also designed to tackle tasks that mimic real-world challenges facing the marine industry including coastal surveillance, environmental monitoring and other types of oceanographic operations.

Students with Humber’s Bachelor of Industrial Design program had a successful showing at an annual design competition where they won several awards.

Students in Humber College’s Bachelor of Industrial Design program showcased their innovative chair designs as part of the annual Industrial Design Chair Show.

The 2024 event was held on March 12 at the Barrett Centre for Technology Innovation and was the public exhibition of the second-year Industrial Design students’ studio chair project. The learners’ creations addressed the evolving nature of commercial workspaces and the need for seating solutions outside of a conventional workstation.

Several Humber College students won awards, including first place overall, at the Association of Chartered Industrial Designers of Ontario’s (ACIDO) annual Rocket Show.

Humber students in the Bachelor of Industrial Design program were invited to participate for the second time in an international design competition organized by Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP).  

Humber was one of just six institutions invited to participate.

A pair of Humber College students claimed first place in a design competition with a device that encourages children to get active when their smartphone or tablet is charging.  

A group of Humber College students have captured first place and the $10,000 grand prize that comes with it in an annual design competition that tasked entrants with creating a fully electric, autonomous concept vehicle designed for Canadians with a disability.

For the first time in two years, Humber’s Bachelor of Industrial Design program was able to host the Thesis Show for its graduating class in person.

When Stephen Bykowy was challenged to design an all-Canadian, zero-emissions vehicle to showcase the auto industry, he reflected on Canadian identity and values.
