Advanced Manufacturing Skills Consortium

Humber has always had strong relationships with many manufacturing industry partners that have helped us shape curriculum and participate in various program advisory meetings, all to prepare students with the skills and experiences required to be ready for an ever-changing workforce. When the Conference Board of Canada published a report that indicated Canada was being internationally outperformed and economically disadvantaged by a persistent “innovation gap”, Humber and our partners knew more had to be done.

A group of nine leading industry partners, already working with the college, formed Humber’s Advanced Manufacturing Skills Consortium. These partners include: Cisco Canada, DMG MORI Canada, Festo Didactic, Javelin Technologies, KUKA Canada, Magna International, Rockwell Automation, SEW-EURODRIVE and SICK Canada.

Working with our partners, we developed a vision for a hub of innovation, supported by faculty members and industry, where collaborations would help to solve
real-world business challenges and students would be provided with learning experiences to prepare them to be the next generation of innovators. We also saw a need to support our community with an outreach program to ensure students in elementary and high school could be introduced to STEAM career choices.

This vision was actualized with the Barrett CTI. Now SMEs and our Consortium partners have access to:

  • Faculty members with specialized expertise in research and innovative technologies.
  • Students who are talented, inspired, skilled and eager to engage.
  • Labs with advanced manufacturing equipment like Festo Didactic’s Cyber Physical Factory and KUKA’s Advanced Automation lab.
  • Continuous Professional Development learning opportunities for digital transformation technologies and improvement of skills.
  • Presentation spaces and meeting rooms are available for events at a cost to SMEs.
