Message From the Director

The Barrett Centre for Technology Innovation (Barrett CTI) was born out of the needs of both industry and academia. Industry required a place where they could bring their business as well as technical challenges to have them researched and solved. Academia needed to adequately prepare students with the skills and mindsets required to secure meaningful work in a digitally advanced 21st century work environment.

It was important to build the Barrett CTI around partnerships, collaborations and education, in addition to the latest technologies, equipment and research capabilities through Humber’s Office of Research and Innovation. The goal was to be an all-encompassing hub of resources and activities that could have a positive impact on industry, small to medium-sized businesses (SMEs) and the workforce of the future. The collective result would make businesses more competitive in the Canadian marketplace and also internationally.

I am very proud to say that over the short time the Barrett CTI has been in operation we have had some amazing success stories for our industry partners, faculty and students. Our industry partners have benefited by having resources and talent to develop or adapt technologies to become more competitive. Our faculty have had the opportunity to lend their considerable knowledge and experience to applied research projects and our students have benefited from a hands-on education experience using state-of-the-art equipment as well as learning new technologies and ways of thinking that will help them find meaningful careers.

This website provides an introduction to the Barrett CTI. I hope you will take the time to browse through all we are able to offer in applied research, access to talent, technology and innovation. We are ready to assist you with your technology challenges!
