Welcome to Note Taking Services
Student Learning Services (SLS) offers note taking services as an academic accommodation to students who are registered with Accessible Learning Services. Note taking is designed to supplement the notes that students take themselves. Using the Messenger Pigeon app, students can audio record classes using a cell phone, tablet, digital recorder, laptop, or other device. These audio recordings are available on the learner's secure account for download. The service also provides a written account of what was discussed in the class. While recording, learners can also make bookmarks to flag important moments and quickly locate them from the written account. Students can write their own notes directly into the app (either during or after the class). The app also includes a Study Assistant feature, that then uses written notes to understand lectures and help learners study with tools such as quizzes.
Am I Eligible for Note Taking Services?
- New students must be registered with, and be referred by, Accessible Learning Services (ALS). Upon receiving a referral from ALS, SLS will contact the student with information confirming registration and training opportunities.
- Returning users of Note Taking Services will receive an email to confirm their status prior to the start of each fall semester. Returning users must be a registered Humber or Guelph-Humber student and be enrolled in classes.
Students who are accessing note taking services as an accommodation are agreeing to the terms of the SLS Audio Recording Agreement. If you have any questions or concerns about the agreement, please email note.taking@humber.ca.
