The 3rd Annual Humber Classic Golf Tournament was a Big Success

June 9, 2015

Thanks to staff and students, the 3rd annual Humber Classic golf tournament was a big success.

Spirits soared over the greens at this year’s Humber College Classic golf tournament. Over 190 golfers were welcomed to a day of laughter and friendly competition at the beautiful Glen Eagle golf course.

Thanks to the generosity of our participants, sponsors and auction donors over $120,000 was raised.  Proceeds from the event will fund awards and scholarships in all the eight schools as well as Athletics, the Aboriginal Resource Centre, Accessible Learning Services, International Centre and the Orangeville campus.

The success of the tournament was made possible thanks to the work of many people and departments from across the College.  Special thanks are extended to the Humber College Classic planning committee, co-chaired by Alister Mathieson, Vice President, Advancement and External Affairs and Paula Gouveia, Dean, School of Liberal Arts & Sciences, and its members: Joe Andrews, Wanda Buote, Ray Chateau, Emily Eyre, Don Henriques, Paul Iskander, Andrew Leopold, Michael Kopinak, Adelia Marchese, Krista O’Donnell, Jessica Powell, Anna Samulak and Connie Sanfilippo.  The efforts from the broader departments of Advancement and Alumni Relations, Marketing and Communications as well as Carol Anderson, Jane Rowbotham, Scott Briggs, Rani Dhaliwal, Rob Kilfoyle, Sanjay Puri and many others are also greatly appreciated.

Thanks are also in order to all the staff and students who volunteered and helped out at the tournament including our very own Humber varsity golf Hawks, who helped lower golf scores and student musicians from the Humber Bachelor of Music program who entertained golfers after the scores were tallied and the carts were parked. Elvira Caria, new faculty member in the School of Media Studies & Information Technology, also graciously donated her time as emcee and auctioneer for the event.

“It is wonderful to see so many people come together in so many ways to support Humber student awards and scholarships,” said Alister Mathieson. "From staff and students from across the college to donors, industry partners and even the broader community, it is remarkable to see this level of enthusiastic support for our students.”

After a great outcome and great results, the College will begin anew with plans for next year’s tournament.  Stay tuned for more information and details to follow in the coming months.
