The Humber Arboretum has an over-abundance of Endlers who are looking for a new home.
Endlers are a small freshwater fish who are closely related to guppies (and are often referred to as “Endler’s Guppies”). They are a hardy fish who can adapt to a variety of conditions and breed easily, which is why the handful of Endler’s that Humber Arboretum staff added to Cleo the Turtle’s indoor pond in the Centre for Urban Ecology have done a little too well when it comes to increasing their numbers.
While Endler’s are considered an easy fish to care for, they still require a proper set-up with the correct temperature and light along with adequate space and water filtration. If you are interested in adding some Endler’s to your existing home aquarium or would like to try to start an aquarium for them, please make sure you research their care first. We recommend these articles:
Please note that these Endler’s are not to be released to the wild or used as bait. They are non-native species who do not occur naturally in Ontario and should not be in our waterways.
How To Get Endler’s from the Arb
If you would like some Endler’s to take home and are prepared to care for them, please bring a suitable transport container to the Centre for Urban Ecology at one of the following times:
- Wednesday, March 26 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
- Friday, March 28 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
The Centre for Urban Ecology is the glass building with the red door on the Humber Arboretum grounds at the back of North Campus (view the location on Google Maps).
If those times do not work for you, you may email the Arb ( arboretum@humber.ca ) after March 28 to see if there are still more Endler’s seeking a home and arrange a time to pick them up.
