Emergency Off-hook Service

January 21, 2016

Information Technology Services is pleased to announce that it is once again in a position to offer off-hook service on telephones in learning spaces.

Effective immediately, taking a phone off hook in a learning space for more than a few moments will once again alert Public Safety that urgent assistance is needed.

Restoring the off-hook service is expected to help make for a safer campus by giving instructors a subtle yet effective way to alert Public Safety of issues.

Taking a telephone “off hook” is quick and easy. Simply lift the handset from its cradle and set it aside. An alert will be sent to Public Safety after a few moments.

Unfortunately, it is still not possible to offer the off-hook service outside of learning spaces. You still need to dial x4000 in the event of an emergency.

Know, however, that Humber’s efforts to offer a security alert function in work areas are ongoing and that a solution is expected in the coming weeks.

Should you have any emergency off-hook service questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at ryan.burton@humber.ca or x5290 at any time.
