On February 19, industry specialists gave students the opportunity to step inside one of Canada’s most recognized media organizations, CBC, for an immersive industry tour that brought learning to life.
Students from Film and Media Production, Broadcast Television/Videography, Media Communications, Journalism, and Arts Administration & Cultural Management went behind the scenes to experience how national and local stories are produced and delivered to audiences across the country. The tour included exclusive access to the network news control room, the National newsroom and studio, the National studio, and the local newsroom — spaces where some of Canada’s most important stories take shape each day.
A highlight of the visit was sitting in on a live taping of World Report, offering a firsthand look at the pace, coordination, and precision required in live broadcasting.
Beyond observation, students engaged directly with industry professionals during a meet-and-greet with various CBC teams, including social media specialists and the Internship Coordinator. These conversations allowed students to ask meaningful questions, explore current and future opportunities, and better understand the skills and competencies employers are seeking.
Experiences like this play a critical role in enhancing students’ employability skills prior to entering the workforce. By exposing students to real-world environments, professional expectations, and cross-functional collaboration, Industry Tours help build confidence, industry awareness, communication skills, and professional networks—ensuring students graduate not only career-ready, but industry-connected.
Stay tuned for details on the next tour happening on Thursday, March 19.
