Ernie Colosimo has decided to turn in his keys and hang up his photo ID. Yes, "uncle Ernie" (as he is affectionately known) has decided to retire from Humber College after nearly 40 years of dedicated service to our community. Ernie grew up at Humber, first being a student (Business and Law and Security Leadership) and then becoming a student security patroller. He then became full-time in the Department of Public Safety back in 1987.
Ernie has contributed much to Humber College. More than what can be easily documented in this type of announcement. Some of the highlights worth mentioning would include converting locking hardware on campus to a high security, restricted master key system. When school shootings became a new phenomenon, Ernie researched and recommended a new "lockdown lock" to then Facilities Director Carol Anderson. These locks are still protecting students, staff and faculty today.
Ernie was also instrumental in bringing Humber College's physical security protection systems into the 21st century. The use of Lenel Access Control and Avigilon video surveillance is Ernie's doing. These systems have been in use for over 15 years and are still considered the gold standard. Humber's security systems have been featured in several industry case studies and highlights. Humber is often consulted by other post-secondary institutions on how we protect our most valued assets - students, staff and faculty. Ernie built up the Security Systems Team to what it is today, and we are all the better for it.
Ernie, thank you for all your hard work, dedication and everything else you have done for Humber College.
At Ernie's request, he didn't want a big send-off or celebration. Ernie celebrate with his family and time in his retirement to relax, travel and enjoy life. I'm certain he would appreciate your notes and well wishes through email or by phone. Ernie's last day at Humber will be August 30. 2021.
On behalf of the Department of Public Safety, please help us wish Ernie a joyous retirement. We will miss his big smile, his hearty laugh and his hilarious sense of humour around the office.
Best wishes, Ernie. Don't be a stranger.
Sincerely,
Rob Kilfoyle, CPP, CMMIII Security Executive
Director, Public Safety and Emergency Management
