Do you have a passion for advocacy and education related to LGBTQA+ issues? Are you interested in volunteering to be a co-chair of Humber’s Gender and Sexual Diversity Committee (GSDC)?
The GSDC is currently accepting submissions from Humber employees and students who are interested in co-chairing this active and engaged committee. There are three co-chair positions – two Humber employees and one Humber student. This is a volunteer position requiring approximately 2 hours per week, averaged over the academic year.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing leadership on all activities, events and initiatives, including Awareness Week, educational campaigns, Showcase presentations
- Hiring and supervising work-study students
- Liaising with supporting partners, including The Centre for Teaching and Learning, The Centre for Human Rights, Equity and Diversity, and Student Success & Engagement
- Representing the GSDC at events, and responding to enquiries from journalists (students and others)
- Writing the annual report
- Creating a schedule of, and co-chairing, monthly meetings
- Overseeing the GSDC website and other communications tools
Qualifications:
- Committed to an anti-oppression approach based on the principles of equity, inclusion and intersectionality
- Experience, professional and/or personal, with the lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer and allied communities
- Experience working in a leadership capacity with volunteer groups
- Experience in advocacy and education
- Democratic, affiliative leadership style
- At least one year of membership with the GSDC (students are not required to have had GSDC membership)
- Humber employees must have release time approval from their manager
Term:
- 2 year term for employees, 1 year term for students

All submissions will be reviewed and voted on by members of the Gender and Sexual Diversity Committee. Co-chair positions will be determined in early fall, 2015.
