Humber Student Wins Major Developing Artist Grant

The School of Creative and Performing Arts is delighted to announce that Matt Lagan is the recipient of a 2016-2017 Hnatyshyn Foundation Developing Artist grant. A talented saxophonist in his fourth year of the Bachelor of Music program, Matt is the winner of the Foundation’s Oscar Peterson Grant for Jazz Performance, and the eighth Humber student to win this grant during its 12-year lifespan. According to Bachelor of Music program co-ordinator Denny Christianson, this prestigious grant is appropriate recognition of Matt’s prodigious talent. “[Matt] Lagan continues to evolve as a soloist with a unique approach, exhibiting a musical maturity far beyond his years, evoking the lineage of past masters from Stan Getz and Sonny Rollins to Michael Brecker and Wayne Shorter.” Please join us in congratulating Matt Lagan on his distinguished achievement!
