Humber will be Smoke-Free as of January 1, 2019

Earlier this fall, Humber became the first public college in Canada to adopt the Okanagan Charter for Health Promoting Universities and Colleges, and commit to embedding health and wellness in all aspects of our campus culture. An important step in helping us achieve our ambitious goal of becoming the healthiest campus in Canada is our move to a smoke-free campus. Humber and the University of Guelph-Humber will become smoke-free as of January 1, 2019.

This decision means that smoking of any kind, including smoking tobacco and cannabis products as well as e-cigarettes and vapes, will be prohibited on all Humber property. Humber property includes all campuses, buildings, spaces, grounds, including residence facilities and all vehicles and/or boats owned or leased by the College.

To support this decision, Humber has created a new Smoke-Free Campus Policy.

Members of the Humber community who want to smoke will need to leave campus property to do so. Individuals will not be given time away from work or class to smoke.

For information about smoking cessation, medical and counselling, fitness and recreation programs available to Humber staff, please go to our smoke-free campus website, or contact Hiren Patel, Senior Abilities and Accommodation Specialist, at hiren.patel@humber.ca or x4237.
