Theatre Performance – Humber Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning:
Tatiana Jennings, Full-Time Faculty, Humber College Theatre Performance

The School of Creative and Performing Arts is pleased to announce the appointment of Tatiana Jennings to the full-time faculty of Humber College’s Theatre Performance program, where she will teach acting in all three years of the program.

“Tatiana has taught in our program for 16 years and has been fundamental in laying the foundation for our innovative curriculum in physical and devised theatre,” notes Paul de Jong, co-ordinator of the Theatre Performance program. “Tatiana will be responsible for propelling this curriculum to new heights: incorporating her profound knowledge of new technologies with her deep insight into cutting-edge performance practice. Her profound vision of training—one which gives voice to a diverse intercultural world—will be a tremendous asset to our program as we continue to assert ourselves as being on the leading edge of theatre training pedagogy.”

In 2012, Ms. Jennings directed and created And the King Dances, Versailles Variations for the graduating Theatre Performance class, and directed a critically acclaimed production of Ned Dickens’ Pentheus as part of the national City of Wine Festival. Among the many other productions Ms. Jennings has directed for Humber are Chekov’s Platonov, Marivaux's Triumph of Love, as well as original adaptations of The Tin Drum, Alice in Wonderland, and The Iliad. Ms. Jennings also choreographed two pieces for Danceries, an evening of dance and live music performed at the Toronto Centre for the Arts.

Ms. Jennings is one of the founders of Kadozuke Kollektif, an experimental theatre company formed with Humber graduates to develop and produce large-scale original work. Her most recent production with Kadozuke Kollektif was inspired by Richard III. From 2008 to 2013, Ms. Jennings created a number of multimedia installations and performances for Toronto’s Nuit Blanche, including Dream Pandemic, The Desperate Tenderness of Hydraulic Displacement and The Fundamental Intransparency of LifeWorld. Prior to immigrating to Canada, Ms. Jennings’ solo performance piece Madame Marguerite played to sold-out Moscow audiences for three years, and she received an award for the best performance at the International Moscow Festival of Theatre Arts.

Ms. Jennings is currently completing her MFA in Digital Futures at the Ontario College of Art and Design in partnership with the Canadian Film Centre (CFC) Media Lab. She holds a degree in theatre and film from the Academy of Theatre Arts in Moscow, where she also studied dance. For two years, she attended classes in theatre directing under the renowned Russian director Anatoly Vasiliev, and appeared as a leading actor at the Tvorcheskie Masterskie (currently Meyerhold Centre for Experimental Theatre) where she participated in developing new training and rehearsal practices for actors.
Humber College Theatre Performance is a three-year advanced diploma program running from September to May each year. Housed within Humber’s School of Creative and Performing Arts, the program offers rigorous training in devised and physical theatre with a special focus on intercultural and multidisciplinary work. Graduates of this program are eligible for the Consecutive Honours (Acting) Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) program at York University.
