TRANSITION & ADVISING PROGRAMS (TAP)
First Generation Students

October 17, 2013

Dear Faculty and Staff,

The Transition & Advising Program (TAP) is a resource to assist First Generation students in achieving their personal and academic goals at Humber College. By joining the TAP Program, students benefit from small group mentoring and advising on a weekly basis from peer student leaders.

We could use your help!

  1. Help us recommend and recruit first generation students in their first semester at Humber College to the TAP program. Simply hand them a TAP card with all the days and times for TAP group sessions. They do not have to register ahead of time and can simply drop in. Remind them that TAP is a free program that has many benefits including:

a. Workshop topics including: study skills, time management, presentation skills and more
b. Social activities
c. Guest speakers
d. A chance to make new friends and be mentored by a senior student
e. Food and weekly prizes!

Where can we get the TAP cards? We would be happy to deliver the TAP cards to your academic school or faculty offices for distribution. Kindly contact Kamla Ross at kamla.ross@humber.ca or 416.675.6622 ext.5887 for more information.

  1. Help us recruit TAP student leaders for the winter semester. This is a paid position for students who are in their third semester. This is a wonderful leadership opportunity and a way for students to build their facilitation skills. Recruitment for these positions starts in November 2013. Simply ask students to complete an application form and package through the TAP website. Remind them that being a TAP leader has many benefits including:

a. Excellent paid leadership opportunity
b. Responsible for facilitating weekly group sessions
c. Play an important role in helping First Generation students feel connected
d. Learn transferable skills

Sincerely,
