UPDATE #3: Unified Communications Rollout

Information Technology Services is proud to report Phase 2 of 3 of the unified communications rollout is now complete!

Phase 2 focused on individuals at Lakeshore Campus. Rollout was successfully completed July 4th as planned.  As with the first phase of the rollout, there were no issues of note during Phase 2.

The focus has now shifted to North Campus (Phase 3).  The first group transitioned earlier this month.  The plan calls for all of North (including Guelph-Humber) to be fully over in October.

At the same time, work to upgrade all the legacy classroom phones has also started.   Classrooms are all being outfitted with new phones and priority access to help and support services.

One new feature getting a lot of attention is the new conferencing tool.  Feedback suggests WebEx offers Humber a significantly better collaboration experience for much less cost.

Another feature getting a lot of attention, especially with on-the-go employees, is single-number reach.  Some people are using single-number reach to stay on top of their calls.

Single-number reach is also helping people work from home.  One person recently used single-number reach to stay productive while home recovering after surgery.  It worked without issue.

But the feature getting the most praise is unified messaging.  Feedback suggests people really like getting their voice mail as e-mail.  It has made voice mail useful again and easier to use.

As a whole, the entire project now stands at 74% complete. Satisfaction with the rollout still stands at 100% according to survey data.  Full rollout remains on track for November 2015.
