Reminder! Strategic Plan Town Hall this Thursday, January 30, 2014

President Whitaker has committed to hosting regular Town Hall Meetings to engage with faculty and staff throughout implementation of the 2013-18 Strategic Plan. To date, we have held two Town Halls on the topics of 'Differentiation and Strengthening Our Polytechnic Identity' and 'Living Our Values as a Learning Organization' (please visit www.humber.ca/wearehumber and follow the links to see the video stream).

Town Hall Meeting #3: Understanding Strategic Enrolment Management (or, What the Heck is SEM?!)
What is a strategic enrolment management approach? How can we support learners throughout the student lifecycle? What is the SEM Advisory Council and how will it work? Humber’s 2013-18 Strategic Plan identifies the development of a strategic enrolment management framework as a key strategy to Strengthen Our Polytechnic Identity and realize our Sustained Commitment to Teaching and Learning Excellence. As we consider what makes Humber unique within the context of postsecondary differentiation in Ontario, understanding how a home-grown, Humber-specific SEM framework will support students and shape our programs and services is essential to our success.

Join us on Thursday, January 30 for a light lunch and interesting conversation about Humber’s approach to strategic enrolment management. All Town Hall Meetings are live-streamed by the Media Services team to the strategic plan webpage for staff at www.humber.ca/wearehumber. You can watch and participate online. The dialogue promises to be lively… mark all Town Hall dates in your calendar!

SIRF Applications and guidelines available at humber.ca/research/faculty

SIRF is intended to foster original, externally focused research by full-time staff or faculty of Humber College. SIRF funds are intended to provide staff with modest amounts of research funding to explore strategic research initiatives. Pilot studies, proofs of concept and principle, and many other types of projects can receive seed funding through this program.

The SIRF process is designed to be competitive, transparent and equitable. An effort will be made to award SIRF funds across the College (i.e., to applicants from a number of Schools/Departments) and priority will be given to projects that directly engage students in the research process.

Whether your research has an academic or a practical focus, your project may be eligible for SIRF funding. Faculty with industry partner connections are encouraged to apply.

It is with warm wishes that Campus Services announces that Lynn Newhouse will be retiring on Friday, January 24, 2014. Lynn has been an enthusiastic leader within Campus Services and her determination, dedication and hearty laugh will be greatly missed throughout the campus.

Lynn’s responsibility included management of the North and Lakeshore residences.  Her dedication and commitment to Humber is exemplified by her willingness to respond to any call of service day or night.  Lynn’s work ethic is an inspiration to her team.

We wish Lynn well with this new chapter in her life.  Please send well wishes to lynn.newhouse@humber.ca.

Sincerely,

Paul Iskander
