Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming an integral component of post-secondary education, reshaping approaches to teaching and learning. As students increasingly learn alongside intelligent machines, educators must help them distinguish between legitimate support and inappropriate dependence to maintain academic integrity. This requires reaffirming independent learning as a defining human capacity.

Drawing on a year of classroom experience, this session explores practical approaches to teaching writing in an AI-enhanced environment, examining instructional uses of generative AI, their pedagogical impact, and implications for academic integrity and student learning. Participants will engage with practical strategies for supporting human-centered writing in AI-rich classrooms.

Dr. Olga Klymenko is an instructor at Lethbridge Polytechnic with 30 years of experience as a language educator and researcher in Canada and internationally, focusing on academic writing, sociolinguistics, and the role of artificial intelligence in post-secondary writing instruction.

Poster for Coffee Chat with Industry on February 27.

We’re excited to continue sharing the Employability Team’s Fireside & Coffee Chats Series with our second event taking place on February 27, 2026.

This monthly series, designed by our Industry Specialists, creates meaningful, low-pressure opportunities for students to connect with industry professionals. These sessions give students the chance to engage in open and honest conversations about career pathways, industry trends, and real-world experiences in a relaxed and welcoming setting.

Each Chat features a guest industry professional and is intentionally kept small to allow for deeper discussion, thoughtful questions, and genuine connection. Coffee Chats are more intimate in size, while Fireside Chats include up to 20 participants — still small enough to encourage engaging, meaningful dialogue. Rather than a formal presentation, these sessions are designed to feel conversational, giving students insight into how professionals got started, what their day-to-day work looks like, and which skills matter most in today’s workforce.

To create an inviting atmosphere, coffee and refreshments are provided at in-person sessions, helping students feel comfortable as they network, ask questions, and build confidence in casual professional settings.

For the Winter 2026 semester, the Industry Specialist Coffee Chats will feature the following industries and dates:

  • February 27, 2026: Business and Entrepreneurship - Virtual
  • March 11, 2026: Business, Arts, and Media (Public Relations) - North Campus
  • March 25, 2026: Business, Technology, and Human Resources - Virtual
  • April 1, 2026: Business, Arts, and Media (Public Relations) - Lakeshore Campus
  • May 20, 2026: Social Services, Settlement, and Non-profit work - Lakeshore Campus

The Employability Team’s Industry Specialist Coffee Chats align with Humber’s commitment to building strong industry partnerships and helping students connect classroom learning with real-world insight. These direct and flexible conversations can spark new ideas, clarify career goals, and help students better understand the pathways available to them after graduation.

For more information on how students can sign up for upcoming Coffee Chats, please have them email employability@humber.ca.

Flyers will also be circulated to the Faculties directly closer to each date.
