New Water Re-fill Stations

February 26, 2016

In 2013, Facilities Management partnered with HSF to install 40 new water re-fill stations across both campuses. They have been a huge success - the built in meters tell us that since the start we have avoided the use of 1.19 million plastic water bottles!

Since then, we have added 21 new units during new construction of the LRC, building F and the Arts Commons. There will be more installed in the current Lakeshore projects: the new Athletic Centre, Welcome Centre and G building.

Coming in 2016, HSF has generously offered to pay for four more water re-fill stations in high use areas and Facilities Management will be installing an additional 20. We hope to finish upgrading all remaining stations in 2017.

The new water re-fill stations do not filter the water. They provide clean City of Toronto water which is continuously tested for quality and safety.

Bottled water is up to 2,000 times more energy-intensive than tap water, and takes as much as 3 litres to make a single litre of bottled water (The Pacific Institute). We thank you for reducing waste and your environmental impact by using refillable bottles at our water re-fill stations across our campuses.
