JOIN THE CONNECT PROGRAM AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE

The International Student and Staff/Faculty/Admin Connect Mentoring Program is designed to enhance the experience of new international students at Humber College ITAL. We hope that this will be accomplished by creating an opportunity for faculty, staff, admin and Humber students to be part of a “Welcome Team” that will engage with new international students through informal, personalized and friendly social interactions.

Why?

  1. To improve the social, psychological and academic performance of international students as they transition to life in Canada and at Humber College ITAL.
  2. To enhance the feeling of hospitality on campus for new international students.
  3. To enhance the intercultural experience and cross-cultural knowledge of staff and faculty. Participation in this program will allow faculty, staff and admin to enrich their intercultural perspectives and communication skills while gaining a greater understanding of the goals, motivations and difculties experienced by international students.

Who can be part of the welcome team? 

The project will be open to all interested full and part-time faculty, staff and admin at Humber College ITAL. (Participation in the program is entirely voluntary.)

What is the time commitment? 

  1. Attend the Mix & Mingle session. 
  2. Attend at least two (2) Connect Program organized events during each term (e.g. Mix & Mingle, International Café, Language Café, Gingerbread Event, etc.). 
  3. Meet with your mentee at least two (2) times outside of any Connect Program organized event during each term.
