Upskilling Existing Employees at Long-term Care Homes Across Ontario to Become Personal Support Workers (Psws).
14 weeks of full-time, online, synchronous coursework. During the student participant's coursework, the LTC home will backfill their work position to support their ability to complete the online training. Even though this is an online course, students should not book any holidays or relocate during the course, as there will be in-person skills practice and testing, at their LTC Home (or Humber North campus).
Students will be assigned to a preceptor from their LTC home prior to beginning their clinical placement. Students will be registered and will be expected to start light online prep work approximately 4 weeks BEFORE the cohort start date. All registration activities and prep must be completed before the student begins the course.
8 weeks of paid, on-site, experiential training through a clinical placement in the LTC home in which the student participant is currently employed. their assigned preceptor will oversee the work of the student in the clinical placement portion of the Learn & Earn Accelerated Program.
There will be three cohorts of 60 students each year, beginning April, July and October. We will be recruiting on a first come first served basis. Once the cohort is full, applicants will be added to the waitlist.
