Upskilling existing employees at long-term care homes across Ontario to become Personal Support Workers (PSWs).

  • 14 weeks of full-time, online, synchronous coursework. During the student participant's course work, the LTC home will backfill their work position to support their ability to the online training.
  • Students will be assigned to a preceptor from their LTC home prior to beginning their clinical placement.
  • 8 weeks of paid, on-site, experiential training through a clinical placement in the LTC home in which the student participant is currently employed. their assigned preceptor will oversee the work of the student in the clinical placement portion of the Learn & Earn Accelerated Program.
  • There will be three cohorts of 60 students each year, beginning May, July and October.

Applications are managed by the LTC Home, staff cannot directly apply to this program. The LTC Home will need to contact us at partners@humber.ca and request a copy of the demographic file. Management at the LTC Home will need to complete the file with staff details and return it to us a week before the orientation date.

The course is 22 weeks, this includes 14 weeks of full-time, online, synchronous coursework and 8 weeks of paid, on-site, experiential training through a clinical placement in the LTC home in which the student participant is currently employed.

Yes, participants are paid for the full duration of the course. Participants will receive payment bi-weekly and will be paid $19.25/hr for 25 hrs + 30% per week.

Payments will come directly from Humber to the participant. This comes at no expense to the home, allowing the home to backfill the participants work position.

This is a full-time course, running Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm. Followed by an 8-week full-time clinical placement.

All preceptors must complete the preceptor training. The preceptor workshop is delivered online and is approximately 3-5 hours. We also provide the preceptors with a handbook. Please note that the workshop is currently being revised and is subject to change.

Current employees (e.g., resident attendants, dietary aides, Housekeeping Aide) at long term care homes based in Ontario.
