John Stilla is the Senior Dean of the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Sciences (FLAS) at Humber, where he provides leadership for diverse programming essential for developing students’ capacity to engage meaningfully, critically and ethically with their local and global communities. Prior to this role, John was the Associate Dean for the Department of English, and he was a former program coordinator and professor within that same department.
John is currently the Chair of Heads of Interdisciplinary Studies, the provincial college leadership group for communications, mathematics, and liberal arts education. He was previously the Co-Chair of the Ontario Colleges Language and Communications Council and the President of the College Association for Language and Literacy.
With an educational background in English, Literature, Rhetoric, and Teaching English as a Second Language, John is an advocate for the importance of a liberal arts education in developing well-rounded critical thinkers who contribute to their workplaces and communities with a mindset of social justice, equity and inclusion. John is committed to leading the FLAS with this same mindset and is pursuing a Doctor of Education in the Field of Educational Leadership to enhance his leadership skills.
