Graphic Medicine Fellowship

Make A Difference

Snakebite has been recognised by the World Health Organization as a neglected tropical disease affecting millions in tropical and subtropical countries. In association with the Asclepius Snakebite Foundation, students from Humber College’s Faculty of Media and Creative Arts work with Biology students at Whitman College (Walla Walla, WA) to create materials to raise awareness about this public health crisis.

In 2022, participants in the Graphic Medicine Fellowship:

  • Created visual materials to assist clinicians diagnose and treat snakebite cases in rural areas of Guinea and Congo,
  • Developed a system to facilitate the identification of venomous snakes so that victims receive appropriate anti-venom treatment,
  • Created a number of social media campaigns highlighting the public health crisis, the ecological importance of snakes, and what a viewer can do,
  • Developed and prototyped a travel notebook that can be used for fundraising in North America.

Humber students have come from a variety of programs, including Advertising & Media Communications, Digital Communications, Graphic Design, Multimedia Design & Development, Music and Photography.
