EnrichED Perspectives: A Journey in Strengthening Indigenous Knowledge for Educational Leaders

This course will focus on strategies to integrate Indigenous knowledge and practices into teaching and engagement, and foster understanding of the relevant history of colonialism in higher education and its legacy in the present day.

The program includes discussions on the challenges stemming from anti-Indigenous racism and wise practices for campus-wide justice and reconciliation-based initiatives. The course follows a transformative learning model to support learners in fostering deep reflection and meaningful engagement with new perspectives. It emphasizes the importance of critically examining one’s beliefs, assumptions, and values, and encourages learners to consider multiple perspectives and worldviews.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Foster deep reflection and meaningful engagement with new perspectives.
  • Interrogate your perspectives, challenge existing "truths," and envision new possibilities for your educational practices.
  • Challenge myths and misconceptions while considering your social location and positionality in educational spaces.

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate the application of practical lessons and tools that support integrating Indigenous ways of knowing, doing, and being into practice.
  • Recognize instances of anti-Indigenous racism within higher education and develop strategies to address them effectively.
  • Evaluate reconciliation and justice-based initiatives implemented in other educational institutions, analyzing the contributing factors to their challenges, successes, impact, and sustainability.
  • Implement strategies and wise practices aimed at fostering collaboration and engagement within the campus community to enhance Indigenous education and engagement initiatives.

Course Fee: $1,800 CAD
