The Scholarship of Teaching & Learning (SoTL) is applying a systematic framework to investigate the effectiveness of teaching and learning practices.
SoTL has three primary goals: (1) to improve our knowledge of student learning and effective teaching practices; (2) to encourage the professional development of our scholarly capabilities; and (3) the public dissemination of SoTL work to make continuing contributions to the field.
SoTL encompasses a range of inquiry and can occur at multiple levels. The 4M Framework is commonly used to demonstrate the various levels in which SoTL can impact: micro, meso, macro and mega (Friberg 2016; Simmons, 2020).
