The deadline to submit the Fall 2025 Confirmation of Enrolment (COE) letters to totalrewards@humber.ca is August 28, 2025. After this date, your over-age dependent’s access to your Sun Life coverage will be terminated, pending receipt of the Fall 2025 COE.
If you have already submitted your COE letter to Total Rewards, or your Pension & Benefits Specialist, no further action will be required from you to continue their coverage past the designated August 31, 2025, termination date. COE Letters received after this date will still be accepted, with coverage being retroactively reinstated per the date indicated on the COE letter.
Coverage for Over-Age Dependents:
As per Sun Life Policy, dependents over the age of 21 (but under age 25) may still be eligible for benefits coverage if they are:
- Considered an Eligible Dependent According to the Income Tax Act.
- Actively Enrolled as a Full-Time Post-Secondary Student.
- Financially Dependent on You.
Coverage for Students Studying Abroad:
Please contact totalrewards@humber.ca for more information and well in advance of the dependent departing Canada (approximately 6-8 weeks before the departure date so the application can be completed, documents are gathered and most importantly, approval can be obtained).
Coverage for Over-Age Dependents with a Disability:
- If a child becomes disabled before the limiting age of 21 (or age 25, if a full-time student), coverage will continue, provided:
- The child is incapable of financial self-support because of a physical or mental disability
- The child depends on you for financial support
- The child is not married, living as common-law, or is not in any other formal union recognized by law.
A completed Disabled Child Coverage Form is submitted directly to Sun Life for approval within at least 31 days of the date your child attains the limiting age of 21, to ensure that coverage continues.
What You Need to Do:
- Provide a Confirmation of Enrolment (COE) letter which confirms that your over-age dependent qualifies for continued coverage, per Sun Life Policy:
- Accepted proof is an enrolment letter printed on the school’s letterhead, containing your dependents name and duration of the current FT semester or academic year.
- Please note that we cannot accept screenshots; and the document must be in PDF format.
- Send the COE Letter to totalrewards@humber.ca for processing.
