Map the System is a global initiative that challenges students to look beneath the surface of social and environmental issues and ask better, deeper questions using systems thinking. It aims to bridge the gap between student-as-learner and student-as-changemaker.
We are currently looking for mentors to support student teams for the Humber Polytechnic Map the System 2026 competition, running during the Winter 2026 semester. Mentoring is also a meaningful professional learning opportunity, particularly for those interested in deepening their understanding of systems thinking and systems change.

What does mentoring involve?
As a mentor, you will support a student team to conduct systems research on a social or environmental issue. This support may include (but is not limited to): offering guidance on systems thinking and mapping, sharing relevant topic-based resources, reviewing submission materials, and meeting virtually with the team to help them work through challenges as they arise.
When will this happen?
Mentorship of student teams will take place from mid-February to early April 2025. The weekly time commitment will vary from group-to-group depending on their needs but expect approximately one to two hours per week.
What does this mean for you?
Your time, insight, and support play an important role in students’ learning and research journeys. In return for your time, you will receive our heartfelt thanks and a gift card.
How can you apply?
If you are interested in becoming a mentor, send us an email letting us know you're interested and please indicate what type(s) of issues/topics you would be most comfortable providing mentorship for (you don't need to be an expert).
Deadline to apply: Friday, February 16, 2026
If you are interested or have any questions, please contact Isabel Sousa, Elinor Bray-Collins or Stephen Stockton.
