Advancing Sustainability – Humber’s Strategic Shift in Printing

Where We Started

As a reminder, in 2023, Information Technology Services, in collaboration with the Office of Sustainability, launched a print strategy to rethink how we print, scan, and copy. Our goals were clear: reduce waste, lower costs and support a greener campus.

What’s Happened So Far

Thanks to everyone’s efforts and the shift to digital workflows, we’ve seen major results:

  • A 40 per cent drop in print volume, over eight million fewer pages printed annually
  • Transition to 100 per cent post-consumer FSC-certified paper

What’s Coming Next

The decline in print volume allows us to reduce the number of Xerox printers installed across the campus. This change supports our sustainability objectives without compromising the department and faculties’ ability to print, scan and copy as needed.

Starting this month, we will begin removing printers. This includes both multifunction devices and desktop printers in areas where print activity has declined.

Together we’re continuing to build a more sustainable future one page at a time.
