Carol Appleby, Director, Professional Learning

We are very pleased to announce the appointment of Carol Appleby as our new Director of Professional Learning, effective September 6, 2016.

Over the course of her 30-year career, Carol has held a variety of positions in education, non-profit and community service fields.

Early in her career, Carol held leadership roles focused on training and development. As Manager of Training, Research and Development for the YMCA of Greater Toronto, Carol managed organizational change through the design, implementation and facilitation of training for over 400 staff.

Carol began her post-secondary career in 1990 teaching at Centennial College and began her service at Sheridan College in 2006. Since joining Sheridan College, Carol served both students and faculty in various roles. In 2010, Carol joined the Centre for Teaching and Learning and was responsible for the planning, development, implementation and facilitation of Sheridan’s Teaching and Learning Academies.

Additionally, Carol’s extensive experience assessing and evaluating faculty development program offerings was leveraged to support numerous quality initiatives. Under her leadership, and in partnership with the academic schools, Carol led many pan intuitional initiatives and served as chair on the Grading Policy Committee and the Aboriginal Awareness Committee. She was also a member of the Portfolio Learning Working Group, Student Assessment and Evaluation Policy Working Group, Accessible Teaching and Learning Committee, International Academic Advisory Committee, and a member of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Engagement Team. Her exemplary facilitation and communication skills were highly recognized and respected by her colleagues.

Carol’s academic preparation includes an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts and Dance from York University and a graduate degree in Child Studies from University of Toronto. Carol is currently in the final stages of a Doctoral Degree from Western University.
