May 5 to 11, 2025 is Mental Health Week in Canada. This week provides an opportunity for all of us to reflect on our mental health, support those around us, and advocate for better mental health resources. At the CIHW, we are dedicated to raising awareness and promoting the importance of mental well-being.
Did you know?
Language barriers, cultural differences, and limited awareness of available services are significant obstacles to accessing mental health support for immigrants and refugees in Canada (Mental health and well-being of recent immigrants in Canada: Evidence from the Longitudinal Survey of Immigrants to Canada (LSIC) - Canada.ca)
This year, CIHW's Health Innovation Challenge focused on the mental well-being of newcomer and refugee families in Peel Region. Our student competitors co-designed community-based, culturally sensitive, family-focused programs including communication strategies, peer support models, and digital education and awareness initiatives.
Together, we can create a culture that values and supports mental well-being, and a healthier future for all!
