Charity Chan, Acting Associate Dean, Music & Fine Arts, Faculty of Media & Creative Arts

I am delighted to announce the appointment of Charity Chan (she/her/they) as the Acting Associate Dean, Music & Fine Arts in the Faculty of Media & Creative Arts.   

Charity is a curator, producer, educator, arts manager, pianist, composer, and musicologist with over two decades of experience in arts and culture and not-for-profit organizations. Her work, which is interdisciplinary and cross-cultural, has taken her across Canada, the United States, Latin America, and Europe.

Charity’s experience as an arts manager includes positions at the Aga Khan Museum, Luminato Festival Toronto, the Art of Time Ensemble, McGill University and, most recently, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Toronto. As an educator, Charity is particularly interested in interdisciplinary artistic creation, global improvisation, social aesthetics and the ecology of arts practice and pedagogy, lecturing extensively throughout North America and Europe.

A graduate of McGill University’s Bachelor of Music program and Mills College’s (Oakland, CA) MFA program, Charity has held several fellowships including the Andrew Mellon Fellowship at the Center for Arts and Cultural Policy Studies at the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University, where she also conducted doctoral studies, and at the Center for Black Music Research at Columbia College Chicago. Her first day at Humber will be December 15, 2021.
