This past semester, the Centre for Innovation in Health & Wellness (CIHW) partnered with the Faculty of Applied Sciences & Technology and students in the Computer Systems Technician - Information Technology Infrastructure and Services program on an impressive HealthTech database project!
Humber students John Paul Mojica, Minh Phan, and Thanh Long Sooc, under the mentorship of Professor Timothy Wong and in collaboration with CIHW's Research Assistant Karimah Kiranda, built a comprehensive tool featuring validated company data, interactive dashboards for provincial and city-level analysis, confidence level tracking, and partnership overviews—all designed to support CIHW's innovation ideas in the HealthTech sector.
Project highlights
The students integrated AI for phone call validation, migrated complex visualizations, and created dynamic dashboards that automatically updated as new data was added. The result? A robust database that translates raw information into meaningful insights for decision-makers.
As John Paul reflected on the experience: "We've gained a deeper appreciation for the role Healthtech plays in shaping inclusive innovation. This experience has strengthened our commitment to building tools that are not only functional but also ethically grounded and community-aware."
This project exemplifies the innovative work that happens when engineering students collaborate with health partners to create real-world solutions in real time.
