Spring Cleaning? Donate Gently Used Items to the Free Store

With spring just around the corner, you might be starting spring cleaning and decluttering your spaces. If you are getting rid of items in good condition, donate them to the Free Store and help give them a new home!

The Office of Sustainability is hosting a Free Store event on April 8, and will be collecting donations of select items to stock the store’s shelves.

What is a Free Store?

A Free Store, as the name suggests, is a store where all items are free. It provides a space where people can shop for items they are in need of, without financial barriers, and it helps keep unneeded items from landfill.

Items accepted for collection

  • Bags (e.g. backpacks and tote bags)
  • Art supplies (e.g. canvases, fabric, paint and brushes, yarn)
  • Books (e.g. fiction, novels, picture books)
  • Entertainment (e.g. board games, cards, toys, video games)
  • Electronics (e.g. keyboards, lamps, tabletop fans)
  • Kitchenware (e.g. cups, plates, utensils, reusable mugs, water bottles, kettles, toasters, coffee maker, blender, food processor, rice cooker, toaster)
  • Office/school supplies (e.g. notebooks, stationery)

Please ensure items are clean and in good working condition. Items that are damaged or otherwise don’t meet the quality expectations will be disposed of by the Office of Sustainability, as appropriate.

If you have any questions about accepted items, please contact sustainability@humber.ca.
