In Winter 2026, the Creative Technologies post-graduate program has a module on Innovative/Technology Leadership. Within that module there is an assignment where students are paired up and will be required to facilitate a 1-3 hours emerging technology workshop under the supervision of CTEC faculty. We are excited to be collaborating with Humber's Innovative Learning Department on this initiative.
Over the past few years faculty and students from Interaction Design Cluster have facilitated workshops across almost all Faculties at Humber, from UX & App Design, to Virtual Fashion, Baking + 3D modeling, to UX + Spatial tech, Grief Closure and Virtual Humans, and many other areas.
With the rapid increase in usage of emerging technologies (AI, VR, AR, Simulations, motion capture, projection mapping, 3D scanning, 3D printing, laser cutting, Drones, IoT, etc), and their affects on every industry and profession over the past year or two, we'd like to offer the ability for our creative tech-experienced students to collaborate and run workshops for programs across Humber as a way to increase emerging tech literacy across the institution.
Here is how it would work:
- May - June 2025: call for interest - we will be reaching out to programs across the institution to see who may be interested
- June - Fall 2025: collaborator programs are finalized and general technology workshop area is identified - David to meet with program/course faculty to finalize the general area of interest
- January 2026:
- Meeting 1 - CTEC students meet with course faculty to discuss learning objectives for the workshop
- CTEC students build the workshop outline and submit it to David for approval - David reviews and approves
- Meeting 2 - CTEC students meet with the course faculty to review workshop outline and get feedback and approval from course faculty
- February - April 2026: CTEC students, in groups of 2, facilitate a 1-3 hour workshop for the particular course during their regularly scheduled course time
Priority will be given to programs that CTEC/ FMCAD Interaction Design Cluster hasn't collaborated with before.
Here are a few past and potential workshop areas to give you an idea of what could be possible, these are just suggestions/thought starters, but we are looking to collaborate with programs to deliver the best subject matter workshop possible:
- Drones for Fire Services - a hands-on workshop where students fly drones and learn how drones are used in fire response situations
- 3D chocolate mold design - students learn simple 3D modeling to create chocolate molds
- Grief and Closer - exploring virtual humans - Funeral Services
- Spatial Merchandising Design - using spatial and 3D software to create physical layout designs - Fashion
- AI + Video - Marketing, Advertising, etc.
- AI + No-code - exploring how AI coding platforms can help non-coders prototype experiences - e-commerce, design, etc.
- Spatial Design - using VR design tools for product design, visual arts, etc.
- Spatial technology for health and wellness
- AI + spatial storytelling - for non-3D experts
Again, above are just some quick thoughts I had, but for programs who are interested, once we connect we can brainstorm together.
