On Thursday, November 20, Humber Polytechnic will observe Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) — a day to honour the memory of the transgender and gender-diverse people whose lives were lost to acts of anti-trans violence. TDOR reminds us of the urgent need to continue advocating for safety, dignity, and belonging for our trans communities on campus and beyond.
To mark this day, the flags across Humber campuses will be lowered to half-mast from sunrise to sunset, and the Trans Pride flag will be included.
As we reflect, we also acknowledge that this day can be difficult for many. Please be mindful of those who may be mourning and take time to show compassion, care, and support to members of our community who are grieving or processing the weight of this day in their own ways.
Collective Action & Learning
The Office of EDIB & The LGBTQ+ Resource Centre invite all members of our community to take time for personal reflection — to honour those we have lost and to consider how each of us can contribute to building more inclusive, affirming spaces for trans students, colleagues, and community members.
Remembrance must move us to action. Learn how to foster inclusive practices, support trans and gender-diverse communities, and challenge barriers to belonging by exploring opportunities for learning, reflection, and remembrance below. Use these as starting points for conversations within your teams, classrooms, and communities — and as a reminder that every action, no matter how small, contributes to building a campus where everyone is seen, respected, and safe.
