Humber’s newly released 2024–2025 Integrated Energy Master Plan (IEMP) Annual Report highlights the measurable impact of our continued effort towards sustainable campus operations and innovation.
Since 2015, Humber has reduced energy use per square foot by over 30 per cent, water use per student by 19 per cent, and absolute greenhouse gas emissions by 13 per cent, while generating over $14 million in utility cost savings to date – nearly $3 million saved from this past year alone.
These achievements were made possible through several major milestones, including the opening of Phase 1 of Humber’s Zero Carbon Building-Design Standard certified Humber Cultural Hub at the Lakeshore campus, and Phase 2 of Project SWITCH at the North Campus.
SWITCH achieved the installation of 1.6 km of underground piping, connecting the residences to the new hot water network, enabling residences to be heated and cooled using Humber’s new low-carbon central plant. A big step towards electrification and away from fossil fuels, enforcing Humber’s climate resilience!
In the coming years, the impact of our emissions reduction projects will see even more transformative change, as we continue advancing Humber’s Climate Action Plan towards our 2029 net zero emissions goal.
