Humber College is committed to building a diverse and inclusive community of exceptional students, faculty, and staff. We recognize that excellence in teaching, learning, and applied research is achieved when the diverse voices, knowledge, and lived experiences of our local, national, and global communities are included in Humber’s faculty body. As one strategy to fulfill these commitments to excellence is achieved through diversity and inclusion, Humber is engaging in a hiring initiative focused on increasing representation of Indigenous and Black full-time faculty members within the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Sciences (FLAS).
This inclusive hiring initiative aligns with Humber’s Employment Equity program, work completed by the EDI Taskforce and with the college’s Indigenous Education Plan. This hiring approach also meets the requirements of special programs under the Ontario Human Rights Code.
These hirings include three full-time professor positions open specifically to individuals who identify as Black/African, and three full-time professor positions open specifically to individuals who identify as Indigenous. All positions are posted on the Humber website and will be distributed to various targeted job posting sites.
This is an important initiative for and supported by Humber. Liberal Arts & Sciences faculty members have advocated for an inclusive hiring strategy in recognition of the importance of all students seeing themselves represented in their faculty and in a learning environment that is rich with diverse perspectives, expertise, and lived experiences.
