Humber Literary Review Accepting Submissions for Mental Health Themed Issue

The HLR Seeks Submissions for Fall 2016:
A Special Mental Health-Themed Issue

The Humber Literary Review, a literary and arts magazine established by the English Department of Humber College, is currently seeking submissions of short fiction, personal essays and poetry for its sixth issue, scheduled for release in fall 2016. Please send us work on the theme of mental health. (The HLR will not be accepting unsolicited comic or artwork submissions for this issue.)

For this special issue, the HLR has partnered with Workman Arts, an arts and mental health organization known internationally for its artistic collaborations, presentations, knowledge exchange, best practices and research on the impact of the arts on the quality of life of people living with mental illness and addiction. www.workmanarts.com

The deadline for submissions is August 15, 2016.

Previous issues of the HLR have included original work from Douglas Coupland, Karen Solie, Alberto Manguel, Russell Smith, Priscila Uppal, Naben Ruthnum, Souvankham Thammavongsa, Mariko Tamaki, George Elliott Clarke, Moez Surani, Jennifer Lovegrove, Travis Shilling, Kara Sievewright, Krista Foss, Amber McMillan, Kim Dorland, plus many other established and emerging artists. The magazine has also featured interviews with Emma Donoghue, Wab Kinew, Marina Endicott, Miranda Hill, Sean Michaels, Sheila Heti, Ann-Marie MacDonald, Michael Winter, and more. Work from the HLR has been featured in Best Canadian Poetry and has been nominated for a National Magazine Award.

We pay $100 each for essays, fiction, reviews, and for 2-3 poems. We also pay our feature and comics artists. Contributors will receive two copies of the issue in which their work appears plus a one-year subscription.
