Joe Henry

Student Success and Engagement is pleased to announce that Joe Henry will be joining the team in Disability Services in the new role of Manager, Student Access. This position has been developed to support the work happening by faculty and staff within Disability Services, as well as working with the broader campus communities to enhance the overall learning environment.

Joe is a higher education professional with over 10 years of experience supporting people with disabilities. He comes to us from Sheridan College, where he is the Manager of Accessible Learning and Student Development. As Chair of the College Committee on Disability Issues, he regularly speaks to issues of equity and inclusion on campuses, and has formed important relationships with the Ministry and local school boards. Joe has been awarded a 2012 DiverseCity Fellowship, which is a year-long development program dedicated to making the Greater Toronto Area a better and more inclusive place to live, work, learn, and play. Having completed his Masters in Education (M.Ed) in Adult Education and Community Development, he is currently pursuing his Doctor of Education (Ed.D) at Northeastern University in Boston. A committed teacher, he has experience teaching certificate, diploma and degree level courses within the post-secondary environment, and plans to continue this support of students inside the classroom.

In this role, Joe will be working to further our understanding of the needs of students with disabilities, both in and outside of the classroom. He will work with academic colleagues to enhance our instructional processes to consider best practices and regulation compliance, in addition to offering assistance in resolving conflicts that may arise. He will work with provincial and national colleagues to further communication with government around what systemic issues and barriers exist to the success of our students. Joe is committed to fostering partnerships across campus, and will bring a wealth of experience to Humber as we continue to enhance our learning environment for all students.

We look forward to welcoming Joe to Humber on April 23, 2012.
