Morris Beckford, Manager of Training and Education, Centre for Human Rights, Equity & Inclusion

Morris Beckford will be joining the Centre for Human Rights, Equity & Inclusion as the Manager of Training and Education on January 10, 2022.

Morris is an author, partial load professor at Humber College and a PhD candidate at York University’s School of Social Work researching race, masculinity, and non-profit leadership. His academic journey also includes a Bachelor of Education, a Masters of Adult Education and Community Development, a HR certificate, an Indigenous Cultural Safety Certificate, a Community Health Leader Certificate, and an IDEAS Quality Improvement Certificate.

As a Freirean educator, Morris works in opposition to the banking model of learning by working with all learners to ensure that their experiences are used to transform systems that maintain oppression. He has designed numerous lessons with such a philosophy. His commitments to education go beyond the classroom. Until recently, Morris was the inaugural co-lead of Humber’s employee Resource Group for Black staff and was also a member of Humber’s EDI Taskforce and Campus Culture Work Group. His most recent publication focuses on the challenges and dangers of cultural competence as praxis for the non-profit and social serving sector.

Morris will report to the Director, Human Rights, Equity & Inclusion. Do join me in welcoming Morris to the new role.
