Retirement: Don Henriques

After 31 years of dedicated service to Humber, Don Henriques will be retiring December 31st of this year.

As a dedicated member of the Campus Services family, Don held multiple roles within our department (most notably General Manager, Food Services and for the past 10 years, Manager Operations, Campus Services) always leading ethically with calmness and kindness.

Don’s contributions to the college and to our department are many, in recent years, Don played key roles in achieving fair trade certification for the college, implementing the pay what you can Soupbar in partnership with IGNITE and the Faculty of Business, coach men’s extramural basketball through Athletics, and, according to legend, as the Lakeshore Residence Manager he purchased incredibly durable goldenrod yellow and olive green furniture for the Lakeshore Residence lounges.

Don has been a strong supporter of the healthy and inclusive community strategy, and led the change from LinX Lounge 19+ years of age only to an all ages Café LinX, contributing significantly to a healthier and inclusive space for both students and staff to gather. Over the years, Don collaborated with a variety of campus partners and vendors to contribute to the broader college sustainability strategy, including implementing systems for better efficiency and less waste. During the pandemic, Don oversaw the creation of the Humber Dining Plan Office management which included supporting the integration of dining plan services into ONECard, became a license Realtor and assumed property management responsibilities for Humber’s Lakeshore Commercial Properties, collaborated in the implementation of the new OZZI O2GO Reusable Container program in partnership with IGNITE and the Office Of Sustainability, and worked with the Facilities Management Teams in the design concepts of numerous exciting new food service projects including a Zero Waste Barrett CTI 5th Floor Events and Conference Center.

Don’s impact on the Humber community has been broad, both in establishing student-friendly systems and professional relations with many colleagues and partners in the community. Many have been impacted by Don’s thoughtfulness, loyalty, and generosity of spirit. The Campus Services Team and Humber community will not be the same without him.

Please join us in wishing Don all the best in this well-deserved next chapter.
