Sheila West Moving to Georgian College

Humber Community,

After more than 14 years of dedicated service, Sheila West will be leaving Humber College to assume an Associate Dean role at Georgian College in November, 2019.

From 2005 to 2011 Sheila served as Professor (Nursing) and Program Coordinator (Practical Nursing) where she led a dynamic team that achieved unprecedented enrolment growth, and exemplary program quality status from the College of Nurses of Ontario. In her role as PC, Sheila contributed to many intra-provincial committees and championed nursing issues within the Ontario context.

Over the past eight years, Sheila has achieved much in her current role as Associate Dean, in the Faculty of Health Sciences & Wellness. With responsibilities for the Practical Nursing, Funeral Services Education, and Personal Support Worker Programs, and the Bioscience Cadaver lab suites, Sheila has promoted and fostered teamwork and collaboration with her team whilst achieving exemplary regulatory compliance within the portfolio. Sheila’s commitment to learner success has ensured the faculty achieved goals of inter/intra professional education, innovation in teaching and learning, and regulatory compliance.

Among her many accomplishments, Sheila received the Distinguished Faculty Award in 2011, and the Helping Hand Award in 2016. Sheila is widely known across the organization as a caring, compassionate, and supportive colleague. Most recently, Sheila was seconded to the Office of the Senior Vice President, Academic, to work on cross-institutional initiatives.

Please join me in thanking Sheila for 14 years of service to the entire Humber community, our learners, and our Faculty. Sheila’s last day at Humber will be November 15, 2019.

Warmest Regards,

Jason Powell RN., BScN., MScN., Ph.D.
Senior Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences & Wellness
