Sylvia Sweeney, Associate Dean, Film, Acting & Media Production

It is with great pleasure that I announce the appointment of Sylvia Sweeney as the new Associate Dean, Film, Acting & Media Production in the Faculty of Media and Creative Arts. 

Sylvia is a highly accomplished media professional whose award-winning career spans more than thirty years and roles on air and off. Sylvia’s extensive experience includes working as an investigative journalist and host for CTV’s W5, as well as a director and producer of film, television and live event productions. As the founder and executive producer of Elitha Peterson Productions, she has directed and produced more than 100 live events and documentaries, including the Gemini Award-winning documentary In the Key of Oscar and the CBC’s Anik Award-winning radio series About Oscar

She has been Executive Producer of the National Film Board’s Ontario Centre, director of the Ontario Media Development Corporation, and served on the boards of both Obsidian Theatre and the Toronto Raptors. 

Sylvia’s studies include journalism, communications, French, classical piano performance (McGill University), cello  (Conservatoire Nationale du Québec), and a Bachelor of Arts majoring in jurisprudence. A two-time Olympian, voted Most Valuable Player in the World in the 1979 World Championships, and a Member of the Order of Canada, she sits on both the International Olympic Committee’s Culture and Olympic Heritage Commission and Basketball Canada’s Council of Excellence.
