Vera Beletzan: Senior Special Advisor on Essential Skills

As you are aware, Humber’s 2016-2021 Academic Plan is now finalized and available at humber.ca/about-humber/corporate-info/publications/files/humber-academic-plan-summary.pdf. As we now collectively focus our efforts on achieving the goals set out in the plan, I am pleased to announce that we will be initiating an Essential Skills strategy in support of Goal 7 of the Academic Plan. It is also my pleasure to announce that Vera Beletzan has been assigned to lead this special project beginning in the Winter 2017 semester.

Vera will be leading Humber’s Essential Skills strategy which will include the development of Humber’s Institutional Learning Outcomes framework for essential skills, as well as the development and implementation of an essential skills assessment process. Vera brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to this role. Her past experience in this area includes a leadership role in the development of the Competencies Framework for Humber’s Co-Curricular Record. She is also currently a member of Humber’s research team working within HEQCO’s Learning Outcomes Assessment Consortium. As the Associate Dean of English, Vera oversees the development and delivery of essential skills in communications across Humber’s schools and programs and represents the college on the Ontario Colleges Language and Communications Council.

I invite you to join me in welcoming Vera to this role and look forward to engaging the entire Humber team in this important work in the months to come.

Warmest regards,

Laurie Rancourt
