If your department is interested in a display booth space, please complete this "Marketplace Registration Form" and return it by May 11, 2012 to Jey Sadad at jey.sadad@humber.ca.
Marketplace will be held on May 31, 2012 during and after lunch (12 noon – 2:30pm) in the Learning Commons (Lakeshore Campus, Building L).
As mandated by the fire code the Department of Public Safety will be conducting fire evacuation drills during the month of May 2012.
The following are the assigned dates:
- Friday, May 4, 2012 at 10 a.m. - North Campus – This is a campus-wide evacuation drill.
- Friday, May 25, 2012 starting at 10:30 a.m. – Lakeshore East side only. Each building will be done independently starting with Building C.
When the evacuation alarm sounds all occupants in the impacted building or fire alarm zone are expected to evacuate the space and assemble outside the building. When the “all clear” is provided by the drill manager, occupants will be advised to re-enter the building/zone and return to studies/work.
Emergency Response Team members will be wearing their high visibility orange vests.

Humber Research is pleased to announce the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada Institutional Grant (SIG) award for 2012/13. The following proposal was recommeded for funding by the SIG Adjudication Committee and approved by the Dean, Research:

Project: The Management and Administration of Government Communications in Canada
SSHRC provides annual block grants that help eligible Canadian postsecondary institutions fund small-scale research activities by their faculty in social sciences and humanities. Humber Research uses these SIG funds to award, through a competitive process, individual grants in the amount of $5,000 per annum (# of projects awarded depends on $ amount received from SSHRC) to support research activities.
Please note that the next SIG cycle will be announced in December 2012 for the 2013/14 fiscal year.

Description of Tech Camps
WORLD WILD WEB: Design and publish your website with the powerful yet user-friendly web editor Adobe Dreamweaver. You'll learn to hand code HTML, colour theory and experiment with creative text effects, as well as design customized graphics using Photoshop.
ROCKIN’ ROBO: Imagine it, build it and watch it go! Powered by the LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Education NXT, our robotics course explores the exciting world of building and programming! Students will create cool robots that perform specific tasks while learning the importance of team work and project management.
DON’T ROCK THE BOAT: Learn the science of buoyancy and how propellers and sails work by testing designs and building different boats. To round out the week, students will take a field trip to test their knowledge during a sailing expedition with certified instructors at Humber’s Sailing Centre on Lake Ontario!

Zaugibagaw Geezis; Yansa’altt (Aboriginal)
Zaugibagaw Geezis is the flowers budding moon. Yansa’altt is the season of berries and woods fragrant with blossoms that yield the summer berry crops essential for the coming winter. Thanksgiving and early summer is celebrated with a Great Feather Dance.
Beltane (Wicca)
Beltane (Beltain or May Eve [April 30] and May Day) celebrates the joining of the Earth Goddess and the life-spark energy of the god Bel in sacred marriage as the basis of creation and as a time to balance the feminine and masculine within the psyche. Each celebrant prepares to participate in bringing the creative potential of the year to fruition. A Midsummer fertility festival was held in Celtic paganism. Maypole dances are presently held.

Wesak is the most important day of the year for Buddhists, also known as Buddha Jayanti, Buddha Purnima or Theravadin New Year. The full moon marks a triple celebration of Siddhartha Gautama (the Buddha) in his Birth, Enlightenment and Final Demise. Buddha’s birth is celebrated on different dates in different countries: in 2012 in East Asia, according to the lunar calendar, it is celebrated April 28 (in South Korea on May 28 and in Tibet on May 29). In Japan, according to the Gregorian calendar, it is celebrated April 08 or May 08.

During May of 2011, twenty Humber College Creative Photography students and two professors embarked on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to China. “Made in China” explores an array of beauty and traditional culture beyond the “tag". It brings to life the essence of China, a country of endless exploration. The photographers from the body of work “Made in China”, will present various styles, formats and genres through the eyes of each of the twenty-two photographers in attendance.
