In his latest President’s Blog, Chris Whitaker talks the spirit of giving and encourages signing up for the United Way Spin-a-thon happening at North campus.

The Culturally Inclusive Educator Certificate (CIEC) program is designed for people teaching, training, facilitating or advising in the public and private sector. The certificate is comprised of five courses to help strengthen, and enhance participants’ intercultural knowledge, communication, curriculum development and differentiated teaching skills when teaching and supporting international higher education students. Upon completion of the certificate, participants will have developed a framework of actions they can integrate into their own practice.

Each course is offered over three classes (for a total of 15 weeks) in the fall, winter, and spring/summer semesters. Upon successful completion of the five courses, participants receive a Certificate of Completion.

This month, the School of Creative and Performing Arts bids fond farewell to two valued colleagues: Maria Gonsalves and Cynthia Good.

Maria Gonsalves’ career at Humber has spanned three decades, two campuses and numerous programs and workshops. Though she started in Marketing, she’ll be remembered most for her contributions to the School of Creative and Performing Arts, where she has brought her innate warmth and considerable knowledge of the College to the position of business manager since the School’s inception. Maria has spent countless hours tirelessly supporting faculty and staff, celebrating students, and nurturing the professional development of her colleagues -- not to mention singing the national anthem at many President's Breakfasts!

After a storied career as president and publisher of Penguin Books Canada, Cynthia Good joined Humber College as the founding program co-ordinator of Creative Book Publishing in 2005. In Fall 2014, she stepped down as co-ordinator to focus on program and community outreach as SCAPA's first Director of Student and Industry Initiatives, a role that allowed her to focus on special projects with external partners such as The Book and Periodical Council and Holland College (Charlottetown, PEI). With her keen intellect, creativity, and boundless enthusiasm for student success, Cynthia has been the embodiment of teaching excellence and a leader among her peers.

Maria's last day in the office will be Friday, November 25, and Cynthia's, Wednesday, November 30. We wish them continued success and happiness in this next chapter.
