Did you know? Osteopathy was founded in 1874 by Andrew Taylor Still, who was an American physician, and had a mechanical background. He chose the name “osteopathy”, as it comes from two Greek words meaning “bone” and “dysfunction”. Still intended to emphasize how the structure of the skeleton is vital to the proper function of the body’s systems.

Osteopathic Practitioners assess and treat the entire body: skeletal, muscular, digestive, nervous, cranial, cardiovascular.

To learn more about how Osteopathy can help, click the link: mississaugaosteopathy.com

Our Osteopathic manual practitioner is available for appointments this Wednesday, May 31 between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Call the Humber Athletic Therapy Clinic at x4025 to book your appointment.

In response to receiving the award, Dr. Bhimani stated, “to be known as emblematic for transforming social injustice and to be recognized for it by women around the world is a great honor and responsibility. My peers expect me to continue to step up and step into shaping a just, equitable
and inclusive world in big ways. Part of my work is to uncover and eliminate with others, the normalized biases, hate, barriers and discrimination that women and people of color must confront every day. I want to thank them for reiterating my continued accountability in this.”

Last year, Dr. Bhimani launched Relational, a global institute to enhance social justice, equity and inclusion. As a woman of color social entrepreneur, Salima is trailblazing innovative ways for historically marginalized women to be at the forefront of leading social innovation. Humber College is excited to announce it has been selected as the lead institution to support three national polytechnic schools in western Kenya as part of the Kenya Education for Employment Program (KEFEP). The three-year, 1.668 million dollar capacity-building project is an initiative of Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) and is funded by Global Affairs Canada. Humber will work in a consortium with Durham College (DC), Vancouver Island University (VIU) and Selkirk College to assist three Kenyan National Polytechnics - Kisumu, Kisii and Sigalagala - to develop their competency-based education training in mechanical engineering, renewable energy and building technology. Led by Humber’s International Development Institute (IDI) and drawing on expertise from the School of Applied Technology and Research and Innovation, the project will provide opportunities for Humber faculty to work alongside Kenyan partners, both in Kenya and through benchmarking visits to Canada. “This is an excellent opportunity to leverage our high quality programming and faculty to make a difference in Kenya,” says Asha Gervan, Manager of IDI. “We look forward to working with Kisumu, Kisii, and Sigalagala National Polytechnics to share skills and knowledge, and support them in achieving their goals.” The KEFEP program will help equip Kenyan youth with the skills and qualifications required to compete in the country’s workforce, and to support the country’s vision of transforming to an industrializing, middle income country by 2030. “This project will allow Humber to contribute to Kenya’s goal of providing a high quality of life to its citizens,” says Gervan. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to take part in this important initiative.”

In April, the International Centre and the LinX pub hosted our first ever and very successful International Music Night. This gave International Students an opportunity to showcase their amazing talents (most for the first time) here in Canada.

Looking to build on the success of that event, the International Centre will be hosting a series of smaller yet more intimate music events that will continue to showcase the amazing and incredible musical talents and abilities of Humber International Students from all over the globe.

Starting May 26th and continuing on the last Friday of each month over the summer, International Student performers will be playing in the LRC Concourse from 4:00 to 4:30 p.m. The main goal of these performances is to not only showcase their own amazing talents but to also add to the already energetic weekend mood for the staff here in the LRC!

If you are looking for more, these performers can be found once again starting in September as we look to build on our initial International Music Night Events!

For more questions or inquiries please contact our International Student Ambassador, rohit.sharma2@humber.ca

We hope that you enjoy!

As part of the Phase 1 implementation of Humber’s Integrated Energy Master Plan (IEMP), Facilities Management is replacing failing exterior building envelope with new systems with more insulation, triple pane windows and reduced thermal bridging. When complete, the buildings will be more comfortable, require less energy to heat and cool, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and won’t leak!

In 2017 we are working on North Campus Buildings N and E.

Construction has started May 8th and the majority of the work is anticipated to finish mid August 2017.

Building N: recladding construction

The first and second floor will be officially closed from 7:00 a.m. on May 25, 2017. The basement floor will have limited access, which will be by the elevator and exit stairs near NX as well as the entrance at the basement level on the East side of the Building.

Signage will be placed by the contractor to identify the closed areas and to direct staff and students to emergency exits.

The connection from the LRC to Building N at the second floor will be closed, the link to GH will remain open.

Please see attached plans indicating closures. It is anticipated that the closure will remain until mid August.

Building E: recladding construction

The exterior finish and windows will be removed and replaced with new windows and an exterior finish similar to Building F. The majority of the work will take place on the third and fourth floors but the Accounting Centre and the Business School will have scheduled minor disruptions. The building will not be closed. Signage will be placed by the contractor to identify the construction areas and to direct staff and students to emergency exits.
