Decorating the office for the holiday season?

Festive decorations help to brighten the office and bring holiday cheer. Here are a few tips to make sure this special time of year is fun and safe for everyone:

  • Use a proper step stool or ladder to hang ornaments or decorate the tree.
  • Watch the placement of electrical cords; even Santa’s elves avoid creating trip hazards.
  • Don’t “daisy chain” electrical cords together or overload outlets.
  • Ensure wreaths, ornaments and other trimmings do not cover emergency exit signs or block access to fire hose cabinets/fire extinguishers etc.
  • Remember to unplug tree lights before leaving for the day!

Having an office party?

  • Be careful not to leave perishable food out for more than two hours – put food back in the refrigerator.
  • Watch for holiday clutter such as boxes and bags and other potential tripping hazards.
  • Wash your hands frequently – it is flu season!

Health and Safety Services would like to wish everyone a happy, healthy and safe holiday season!

Humber’s Human Rights Policy & Faculty/Student Relationships

The integrity of the faculty/student relationship is a key foundation of Humber College’s educational mission. This relationship confers significant trust in the faculty member, who, in turn, assumes authority and accountability as an educator, evaluator, coach and mentor.

Humber’s Human Rights Policy instructs that the pedagogical relationship between faculty member and student must be protected from influences or activities that can interfere with learning consistent with the goals and ideals of the College.

Provided below is an overview of Humber’s position on faculty/student relationships as outlined in section three (3), page three (3) of Humber’s Human Rights Policy:

  • The pedagogical relationship between faculty member and student must be protected from influences or activities that can interfere with learning consistent with the goals and ideals of the College. All such relationship jeopardizes the integrity of the educational process. Whenever a faculty member is responsible for academic supervision of a student, a personal relationship between them of a romantic or sexual nature, even if consensual, is inappropriate.
  • Any sexual or romantic relations between a teacher and a student during the period of the teacher/student relationship are prohibited. The prohibition extends to sexual relations between a student and all others who have supervisory academic responsibility for that student.
  • All complaints of sexual harassment will lead to a formal investigation. Faculty members found in violation of this prohibition will be terminated.

On November 20, 2014, the Business School’s Placement Centre hosted the APICS Job Search Workshop in coordination with Supply Chain Management and e-Business Marketing degree program coordinator, Eli Lewin. The Association for Operations Management (APICS), which promotes advancing productivity, innovation, and competitive success, provided event attendees with information on becoming a member of the APICS-Humber chapter, as well as potential work placement opportunities in the supply chain and operations management industries. The workshop featured guest speakers, Sam Manna, Director of Client Development & Talent Acquisition at Argentus, and Donald Cooper, member of the board of directors for the APICS- Toronto Chapter. Guest speakers spoke to students about the various benefits of joining a professional association and how to effectively conduct their job searches. The event also featured an enthusiastic panel of Humber alumni, who provided current students with valuable career and job search information and advice.

The event was a major success, with over 120 guests in attendance. The workshop facilitated valuable information sharing among students, alumni, industry professionals, and Humber faculty. It was also a great networking opportunity for students seeking work terms.
