As of June 18, 2014, faculty and staff will have access to a Services tab, which enables the management of photo identification, parking permits and locker rentals.
The Services tab has the following sub-menus:
- Administrative Services
Faculty and staff have the ability to manage, approve, reject and process bulk images within the Administrative Services sub-menu. Please note, eligible students manage their photo identification by accessing the Personal Information tab on MyHumber.
- Parking and Locker
The new Parking and Locker sub-menu offers staff the ability to purchase parking permits. Students can purchase parking permits and rent lockers in one simple to use application.
Take a moment to log into MyHumber and explore these new functionalities.

It is with mixed emotions but warm wishes that I am announcing the retirement of Bob Schilling, effective June 30, 2014. The Financial Services and Planning department and the Humber community will be saying goodbye to a friend and valued colleague.
Bob joined Humber in July 1986 as the Office Manager for the Centre for Continuous Learning/ CL Operations and in 1995 took over the responsibilities as Manager of Government Programs/Budgeting. In 1999 Bob was appointed the position of Associate Director, Financial Services (Accounting). Bob has been instrumental in implementing many financial upgrades and also assisted in the Banner Finance System for the College.
Please drop by the Financial Services and Planning office on Friday, June 27, 2014, between 10 a.m. until 12 noon for some refreshments and extend your well wishes to Bob.

Passionate about progressing the climate of teaching and learning in higher education, Humber College is committed to enhancing the student experience through the Classroom Redesign Initiative. This re-imagining process is dedicated to student success and the goal of utilizing learning spaces to develop learning experiences that are engaging, enduring, and transformative.
A Classroom Redesign Committee has been assembled to map, plan and structure the project, and to ensure that the process and outcome will be fully integrated. Working together across the institution, the committee will act as a delivery vehicle to: re-negotiate and propagate the approaches in learning and collaboration, expand the breadth of flexible learning to allow for intellectual exploration through creative spaces, and inspire a culture of reciprocity where students and faculty learn with each other, as well as from one another.
Firmly embedded in this multi-phase initiative is a multi-year project aimed at remodeling classroom standards that better reflect the current atmosphere of teaching and learning philosophies, behaviours and practices. These standards will address the need for spaces that support autonomy in learning, and encourage hands-on, practical, and experiential learning.
Creating collaborative and active learning spaces will be a primary factor in stimulating learning and supporting student achievements. Guiding these principles and informing the decision making process for the project will be an amalgamation of data collected from the NSSE (National Survey of Student Engagement) and CCSSE (Community College Survey of Student Engagement), combined with current research literature. The Committee has completed a rigorous external review of best practices in learning spaces, as well as a thorough assessment of the current landscape of the classroom design across other institutions.
Moving from a one-size-fits-all solution, classroom spaces need to facilitate deep learning and be responsive to students’ needs. The ability to learn is cultivated from both inside and outside of the classroom. Learning spaces must reflect a ‘universal design’ model that supports andragogical (Adult Learning Principles) teaching and learning methods that incorporate maker spaces, flexible learning, and support the use of educational technology.
With a focus on enlivening the spirit of educational empowerment and maintaining a connection with community, the classroom redesign project will promote three essential design principles: focus on flexible learning, on service and on the learning experience. These fundamental principles were developed by the Humber community through a series of visioning and engagement consultations that included: roundtable sessions, focus groups (comprised of staff, faculty, students and administration) and online surveys. These principles will strengthen the design process during classroom renovations.
The initial phase of the classroom redesign initiative will focus on renovating two classrooms. Informing the redesign of K148 will be a strong focus on research, centered on student and faculty experiences. The redesign for the faculty training space, D236, will echo a diverse space built for discovery of new strategies for teaching and learning. This initial phase will inform and guide the design of future learning spaces and the redesign of the existing Humber classrooms.

In September 2013, we awarded the new Vendors of Record for Promotional Products to four vendors: Akran Marketing, Accolade Promotion Group, Sales Dynamics, and The Branding Company. This contract will be expiring at the end of August. With that being said, we have the option to renew the contracts with the vendors for the first optional year.
Purchasing is looking feedback both positive and negative regarding the services and products from our current suppliers to determine if we are going to renew the contracts or if we will be going out for bid again this year. Again, the current Vendors of Record are:

After a lengthy and rigorous competitive tender process, Facilities & Capital Development is pleased to announce Sodexo Canada will be assuming the role of managing our cleaning contract at both North and Lakeshore Campuses, as of July 1st 2014. Hurley Corporation has held the contract for the past 17 years, most recently winning the tender process 5 years ago in 2009.
During the process, Facilities & Capital Development took the opportunity to tighten the specifications significantly, adding additional labour in strategic areas including washroom cleaning, Saturday service, and Sunday night cleaning. In keeping with Finance & Administration’s commitment to operational stewardship and service excellence, and further embraced by Humber’s Strategic Plan, performance metrics for service delivery and cleanliness were built into the new contract, with a focus on quality assurance reviews, satisfaction surveys, and action plans to support continuous improvement.
What to expect July 1st, 2014: New uniforms and cleaning equipment, electronic washroom cleaning monitoring technology, increased use of green cleaning products, improved service standards, and a new General Manager position added to the Sodexo on-site organizational structure.

As the Learning Resource Commons (LRC) continues to take shape, the early stages of the transit loop construction are about to begin. As of Monday, June 9, 2014, Spruce Vista in between Silver Bell lane and Arboretum Blvd. will be closed to traffic. Spruce Vista will be transformed into a pedestrian promenade as part of the LRC construction.
All driveways to Humber College Blvd, all entrances/exits to all existing parking lots and Silver Bell Lane and Arboretum Blvd. are open.

The second annual Humber Golf Classic was held on Tuesday, June 3, 2014. The event was attended by more than 190 golfers, representing many partners of Humber. I am delighted to report that the event raised over $100,000 for Humber student awards and scholarships.
