$1,500 Scholarship Available to Students

The Humber College Health Centre and the Responsible Gambling Council are working together to help educate on a harm reduction approach for students when it comes to gambling.  Know the Score is a program Responsible Gambling Council travels to colleges and universities to speak to students about problem gambling prevention.  Humber supports Know the Score by hiring students to educate other students on prevention and awareness. In addition social media is used to actively reach out to students. 

Students can visit www.kts2.ca to answer a quick five-question quiz and will be automatically entered!  The survey closes on Friday, November 29, 2013, at 6 p.m.    Rules and regulations can be found online.

The Alternative Spring Break (ASB) program to Monte Cristi, Dominican Republic, is a one week service learning trip in partnership with Outreach360.

“Outreach360 is a non-profit organization and has been working with disadvantaged children in the Dominican Republic since 1994. Outreach360’s vision is a transformed world where every child is adequately prepared for college or gainful employment upon reaching adulthood, enabling them to live a life of choice. Each child will become an active citizen, committed to serving those less fortunate, and
be a friend of the environment. “ (Outreach360, 2013)

It is standard practice for Humber to send a minimum of two Humber full time staff, with specific responsibilities, on each trip offered. The following application is to indicate your interest in applying to attend an Alternative Spring Break Trip as the Humber staff.

Eligibility Criteria:

1. Must be a full-time Humber staff member.
2. Must be the first time attending an Alternative Spring Break trip.
3. Willing to take an active role as a representative of Humber (please see Faculty/Staff Expectations).
4. Must have a valid Canadian Passport with expiry no less than 6 months after the date of travel (or able to obtain the appropriate travel VISA’s/documentation).
5. Have an interest in, and understanding of, Service Learning and the benefits to students.
6. Must be fully available for travel between Friday, February 14 – Sunday, February 23, 2014 inclusive.

 After 39 years of enthusiastic service, Jane Smith is retiring from Humber. Jane joined Humber in 1974 as a scheduling technician and is currently a member of the Implementation Team of the Enterprise Systems Project at The West Mall as a business analyst. Jane has applied her analytical and training skills serving Humber's schools and departments in support of Humber’s student systems, EIS and LIS.

Jane has had many roles in such areas as the Office of the registrar, Computing Services, Marketing, Career Services and Information Technology. She has provided friendly advice to both students and clients of Humber’s information systems. She is also a loyal ambassador for Humber!

Jane looks forward to travelling and enjoying more time with friends and family.
